Our story

Homegrown Luxury

We're the only UK bedmaker to grow our own fillings

It’s on our farm, just 18 miles from our factory, where every Harrison Spinks bed starts its life.

With acres of homegrown natural hemp fibres, linen flax and our flock of sheep, it’s here, on 300 acres of prime Yorkshire land, where our story begins.

We produce luxurious and naturally absorbent fibres, to create the most comfortable and responsible fillings for our beds.

Luxuriously responsible fillings

We know every single inch of the mattresses we make. Every mattress we make is foam free, glue free and FR chemical free.

We have strategic measures in place to make sure only the best materials go into our mattresses. We only ever make beds that we’re happy to sleep on ourselves.

Authentic traceable British Wool

We were the first bedmaker to partner with British Wool to ensure all of the wool we use is from traceable British farms and ethically sourced. This gives complete sustainable control, from sheep to sleep.

The Harrison Spinks Farm

If you want a job done right, we believe it really is best to do it yourself. That’s why in 2009 we settled into a new home at the Harrison Spinks farm, a 300-acre farm just 18 miles from our Leeds factory that gave us the freedom to do more things the way we wanted to. We are on the journey for our farm to be fully organic by 2025.

Why do we use natural materials?

When it comes to crafting a great night’s sleep, natural is best for wicking away moisture and regulating body temperature. Having our own farm allows us to produce natural fillings that are used in many of our mattresses and in ways that we know guarantee excellence and without the use of pesticides.

Wool

We rear our happy sheep on our rich untreated pastures. Being passionate members of the British sheep-farming community, its important to know where every fleece comes from. So, in addition to wool from our farm we were the first bedmaker to partner with British Wool to use 100% traceable homegrown wool.

Hemp

Generous layers of hemp fibres provide the perfect natural luxury experience. And while you’re sleeping soundly, the durable fibres are super efficient at absorbing moisture. Helping you keep cool and dry all night.

That’s not all they absorb. Each crop sucks more carbon out of the atmosphere than it takes to grow. Plus, in true Yorkshire style, nothing goes to waste. The parts of the plant that don’t make it into a Harrison Spinks bed are used for animal bedding, biofuel and sustainable building materials.

Flax

We use the stems of the pretty blue flax flower to make our natural linen. Two or three times stronger than cotton, they create a lustrous, absorbent and breathable linen fibre.

Luxury fabrics woven by us with love, not FR chemicals

Investing in state-of-the-art looms and re-igniting the long tradition in the Yorkshire area, we are the only UK bedmaker to weave our mattress fabric.

Made with a high wool content, it’s naturally fire-retardant. By removing the need to add potentially harmful fire retardant treatments, we’ve created a safe sleep surface designed for a peaceful night’s sleep.

Fabrisafe™

Our exclusive FabriSafe™ mattress cover is unlike any other bed fabric. Made with quality wool yarn and natural viscose, its unparalleled soft, breathable and luxurious qualities are perfect next to your body.

Nurturing the environment

On our farm we make decisions that benefit the wildlife. We’ve worked closely with the RSPB and Natural England to make sure the ecosystem on our farm doesn’t just survive, it thrives.

What's more, the hemp that we grow on our farm is the perfect environment for increasing the ever-decreasing bee population as bees thrive on the nectar from the hemp plants.

Pioneering our springs

Innovation never sleeps at the Harrison Spinks factory. Our continuous investment in springs has allowed us to become the world’s most vertically integrated bed manufacturer.

British Steel

The key to fantastic springs is not only the raw material; which we source the majority of from British Steel in Scunthorpe UK, but it is in the innovation.
