The company won awards in two categories in 2013 – Innovation and Sustainable Development – making history in the process as the first company of any kind to win both awards in the same year. Harrison Spinks was also the first bed manufacturer to receive either of the awards.
In October 2013, the company welcomed the Queen’s representative, Vice Lord-Lieutenant Tim Hare to its West Yorkshire head office showroom for a presentation ceremony. Harrison Spinks grant of appointment lasted for five years.
In 2018, Harrison Spinks was awarded two more Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, this time in International Trade and once more in Innovation.
As the recognised trade association representing UK manufacturers of beds and their suppliers, the National Bed Federation works to maintain industry standards, particularly where they affect the consumer. As the leading authority on beds and mattresses, the NBF provides advice and publishes information useful for both the public and a wide range of organisations and public bodies.
Founded in 1912, the NBF’s members account for around 75% of the total UK bedding turnover. Harrison Spinks is a proud member of the NBF and supports its aims.
Harrison Spinks is committed to using and promoting British wool. As well as raising sheep for eco-wool on the Harrison Spinks farm, the company is affiliate to the British Wool Marketing Board (BWMB).
Established in 1950, the BWMB is a not-for-profit organisation operating a central marketing system for UK fleece wool in order to provide a secure market outlook and achieve the best return for producers.
Harrison Spinks also supports The Campaign for Wool, funded by a number of organisations including the BWMB and supported by many leading figures from the worlds of fashion, interior design, carpets and building insulation. A worldwide initiative started by its patron, His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, the campaign promotes awareness of the unique, natural and sustainable benefits of wool, as well as its versatility and myriad uses. The campaign is already seeing increased demand for British farmed wool and Harrison Spinks is proud to be associated with this aim.
A corporate member of the Furniture Makers Company, Harrison Spinks has been recognised by the organisation’s Guild Mark scheme as a manufacturer exhibiting the highest standards of British furniture production.
Formed in 1951, the charity was granted livery status in 1963. Representing the British furniture industry, the Furniture Makers Company supports the craft and industry of furniture makers and works to advance the welfare and education of those joining or working within the industry.
